The weekend...
On the home front, it was a weird weekend. Some would say it was a weekend filled with drama. One that you don't want to happen often as it would make you crazy. We had an Invasion of the Stupid Building Management company on Thursday. All caught on video tape (with their approval). Watching it makes my head hurt.
Saturday, we found out about some sad family things that have happened. My heart goes out to our family members who are going through all of this.
Saturday night, I found out (by accident) that my sister's beloved dog, Dewey, had died. He had been sick for a long time. It was the same day that my nephew was brought home from the hospital. My Mom had been taking care of Dewey (also known as the "Grand Dog") for the past few weeks. It happened at her house and the doggie died in his sleep. They found him curled up on the rug in the morning. I dreaded having to come home yesterday for the first time in my life. How was I going to tell Tristan that his best furry friend was gone??? Tristan talks about two things: Lego and Dewey, Dewey and Lego. I waited until Monday afternoon (after I got home from AZ and did all of the things we had to do-return the rental car, etc...) and we took him to a place far from home. I didn't want him to have to associate anything with losing his best furry friend that day.
So, if I am quiet and melancholy for a bit you know that we are all aching from the loss of a damn good dog. Dewey, we love you and miss you!

Quick update on Adventures in Renting:
Went to the Rent Stabilization board today. Spoke with four different people, all four said different things, contradicting each other. Was told by the main woman at Rent Stabilization that "they" would not come into our apartment today. One inspector said that they were only going to one apartment (not ours). The main inspector said that they were going into all of the apartments (yet the others did not receive notices), and that they would not come here today. We were also told that our building is not covered under Rent Control since the new owners bought the building (in 2001 with a loan of one million, seven hundred thousand dollars from the West Hollywood Community Development Commission-which is part of West Hollywood city government) and turned into low income housing (we are legacy tenants and not under the low income program). We went to the rent stabilization board to find out if the notice was legal. We showed them the agreement (that we have copies of) between the city of West Hollywood and the non profit that says specifically that we are covered under rent control. Yet, everyone at rent control said that because we are now owned by the non profit that we are NOT covered under rent control and that we are under L.A. County laws. WTF? The adventure continues...
Trekking to Frenzy Stamper in Scottsdale, AZ today. I can't wait!!!! If you see a redhead blasting music on the 10 going East, with art supplies bursting out of the car, wave!

Adventures in Renting:
A notice was left on our door (4/20) addressed specifically to David and myself saying that the building manager,'s boss, a representative of the city of West Hollywood and a member of the people who own this building are coming into our apartment between and 1 and 3 on Thursday (4/22) for another "inspection". We one of two tenants who received this unit in the whole building. I spoke with the building manager on 4/20 and he told me that there is a concern that our unit is "too cluttered" to be considered "safe". We've lived here for 14 years and have never ever had this problem. I feel as if we are being harassed plain and simple. We are one of the oldest tenants in the building (14 years) and our rent is cheap (compared to the rest of West Hollywood). They want us out. They've tried things in the past and I wouldn't put it past them to do it again.
On a good note, my bags are packed. My handouts are printed. Clothes need to be packed. Art Journal bag needs to be packed. Paper. Paint. Stamps. Tape. Stickers. Bookbinding supplies. Stuff to make tons of cool pages. Check. Check. and Check. Frenzy Stamper, here I come!!! I can't wait!

Thank you to all of you who wrote about my Dad and my cousin Bev. Dad is home on the road to mending after his surgery on Monday. The doctor said everything went well and his arm is looking good. My cousin Bev needs lots of good thoughts, prayers and all things good that you want to send her way. She heard back from the doctor that it is cancer and she has different things scheduled. It sounds like they are taking good care of her but everyone who knows Bev loves and adores her and wants her to be well and on the road to healing...Thanks for listening and for caring.

Home today. It's the last day of Tristan's vacation. We're laying low at home today for a fun day of art and Lego! Yesterday, Tristan and I went to KinoBuyItAll (aka Kinokuniya) where I was fairly well behaved and picked up a couple of pens, two rolls of tape and two books. We then hopped on the 110, took a detour (to avoid a big accident on the 5) and drove through Highland Park. Fun exploring L.A.! Porto's in Glendale. Lego store in Glendale where I swear we spent two hours filling Tristan's two pick a brick cups. A good day was had by all. :)

Just a little documentation (for future reference for me here), we received a notice on the door Wednesday afternoon from the building manager saying someone was coming into the apartment on Thursday to measure the unit. (Note: The notice wasn't 24 hours and that's illegal.) Note said that someone could come between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Wasted a whole day as no one showed or left a note saying what was going on. Wouldn't have been so bad, but Tristan's vacation is this week and it's been two days at home when we could be out doing something. I love being a renter!
Don't forget-TWO classes scheduled this weekend. If you're interested, please sign up asap! I won't be teaching either class locally for awhile as I have lots of new classes that I'm eager to debut. Urban Craft Center on Saturday, Art Bar on Sunday. Have a great weekend!
