"I want people to talk to one another no matter what their difference of opinion might be."
"I hope for peace and sanity - it's the same thing."
"But once you become active in something, something happens to you. You get excited and suddenly you realize you count. "
"I think it's realistic to have hope. One can be a perverse idealist and say the easiest thing: 'I despair. The world's no good.' That's a perverse idealist. It's practical to hope, because the hope is for us to survive as a human species. That's very realistic."
"I'm not up on the Internet, but I hear that is a democratic possibility. People can connect with each other. I think people are ready for something, but there is no leadership to offer it to them. People are ready to say, 'Yes, we are part of a world.'"
"I've always felt, in all my books, that there's a deep decency in the American people and a native intelligence - providing they have the facts, providing they have the information. "
"People are ready to say, 'Yes, we are ready for single-payer health insurance.' We are the only industrialized country in the world that does not have national health insurance. We are the richest in wealth and the poorest in health of all the industrial nations."
"Someone who does an act. In a democratic society, you're supposed to be an activist; that is, you participate. It could be a letter written to an editor."
"We are the most powerful nation in the world, but we're not the only nation in the world. We are not the only people in the world. We are an important people, the wealthiest, the most powerful and, to a great extent, generous. But we are part of the world."
"That's what we're missing. We're missing argument. We're missing debate. We're missing colloquy. We're missing all sorts of things. Instead, we're accepting."
***** Thanks to all who answered my question in the post below. I'd love to hear from more of you if you'd like to leave a comment. If anyone has any specific things they want to see happen out of their candidate winning the election, I'd love to hear more.
I have a question for you. Yes, *you*. I'd like you to leave a comment in the comments section. You can leave your name or you can be anonymous. You can leave who you are voting for or you don't have to say. Come this election day, what do you expect? What do you think will happen if your candidate gets into office? What do you expect that person to do? What do you want them to do?
What are your thoughts?
All opinions are welcome. No one will be condemned or applauded. I just am looking for honest answers.
It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!!! is on ABC TONIGHT (Wed) at 8 p.m. Yes, I'm excited. I had the record (still do) growing up and would listen to it *all* of the time. Needless to say, I drive everyone crazy because I can quote the damn thing word for word...and it doesn't have to be Halloween for me to quote from it. Tristan will be happy when he finds out... IHanna pointed out that there's a new book coming out by Violette in April 2009:*****
One of the best short films ever made. David and I went to the Academy to see it years ago. We walked in, watched the film and left afterwards both in tears. We talked about it for days afterwards.
Totally spoiled rotten today. (Husband will kill me for posting this picture. *love you* honey!)Did I ever tell you my husband and son make the best cake!?!!!?Some of the things my friends spoiled me with yesterday- "Grab boxes" First off is Staci's box-Then Kara's box-Then Carmen's box-Aren't the boxes gorgeous and amazing!?!??!!
My jaw dropped when I Kara gave me my presents-look at what she made for me. My heart grew wings and just flew away. I LOVE this piece:AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH *and* a vintage scrapbook, too:Carmen knows how obsessive I am with these Paumes books:Staci gifted me with:Vintage finds from Pasadena...I just go ga ga over stuff like this. The History book is written in.I told you I was regressing. Not much difference between 34 and 8.The best gift of all is the love and friendship I have felt in the past 24 hours. Lots of wonderful birthday wishes from around the world and in my neighborhood. Good friends and a loving family. I really don't need much more.
On a side note, my son is obsessed that this is my 1,001 post.If you watched the video below, you know how high you jumped (probably as high as I did)...even funnier was my Mom's reaction. Hee hee. I phoned her and told her to check her email as I sat on the phone and listened. Her reaction and the laughter that followed (on both of our ends-L.A. and Boston) made my day.
and had one of the best birthday celebrations EVER!!!!!!!!!!! Kara, Carmen and Staci {{{{Hugs}}}} to all of you. You guys ROCKED my world yesterday in a pre-birthday celebration!!!!!!!!!
The day started off at Kara's house. Carmen and Staci trekked from Thousand Oaks and braved the 101 traffic (and scary fire) to meet in L.A. All 3 ladies made these gorgeous grab boxes filled to the brim with goodies for each of us (so everyone got a present!! How cool is that!?!) The boxes are AMAZING!!!!!!! Kara's delightful boxes are the 3 in the middle (the butterfly, dress and tiger). Carmen's boxes are the three tall delicious cylinder ones (yummy pinks/purples, Autumn colors and greens). Staci's scrumptious treats are the cigar box shapes ones (hee hee guess which ones I got?!? That woman KNOWS me and what makes me larf! Her boxes say SING, JOY and VOTE!) I will show you later what treasures they held. After we went through the boxes (I could have easily spent all day doing this), our first stop was ZINNIA in South Pasadena. I LOVE this store. I LOVE how they have expanded. Tamara and the gang have done an amazing job. It is a must stop at anytime you are in So CA. It never fails to make me squeal. Check it out- Hi Carmen, Kara and Staci!!!! Look who was there!! Tasha! Hi Tasha, where's Jazmin, the Wonder Pup? Tasha was lucky enough to be taking of Joe's amazing classes!!!! Ahh, I forgot to take pictures the rest of the day. I was simply having too much fun (can one have too much fun??!!) Our next stop was the antique store across the street where I found some treasures. Then lunch at Heirloom Cafe which had the best egg salad sandwich I have ever eaten and a scrumptious cupcake (always more yummy when you share!!)
Off then to Kino-buy-it all, I mean Kinokuniya in Little Tokyo where much fun was had. Next stop was Pulp on La Brea (ahhhhhh new paper). Then, Millie Papercrafts on La Brea (I LOVE this store!!!! She had tons of fun new goodies!!!).
We went back to Kara's house to rest a bit. The ladies were extremely generous. I will share the goodies in another post. Let's just say my jaw dropped several times and I still can't get over their generosity and how much they spoiled me.
We ended the night at the Farmer's Market at Monsieur Marcel where we ate one of the best meals I've ever had in my life. I am in love with ratatouille provençale. Oh my. Yum. It was so much fun and such a sweet birthday treat.
Thank you thank you thank you to Kara, Carmen and Staci. You three have created a day filled with wonderful memories. I am extremely lucky to have such wonderful, thoughtful, caring and generous friends. Thank you again. I'm still dancing!!!!
